The wave and tidal renewable energy segment encompasses relatively new and rapidly growing renewable generation technologies that access the wave and tidal movements in oceans and seas.  Advances in marine turbine technologies provide many commercially viable project opportunities for utility-scale applications as off-shore generation fleet configurations near major coastal energy markets.  The round of wave and tidal generation projects may be particularly feasible in areas where large off-shore wind farms are already operational (whereby necessary transmission cables and infrastructure is already available).  In fact, in a number of European coastal areas, numerous wave and tidal "pilot projects" are already progressing.
